Acceptance, Love and Compassion in Meditation: A Daylong Retreat

The Yoga Connection 39 Gore Street, Perth, ON, Canada

Insight Meditation is a practice of attention and awareness that brings a kind, non-judging and compassionate presence to our inner experience, our relationships and the way we engage with the world. It is not a cold and demanding gaze, driving us towards perfectionism; rather it is learning to accept and attend to whatever our experience may be. By staying open and present we come to realize its impermanent nature. We may feel grief, wanting, fear or anger but we do not need to be overwhelmed and consumed by them. It is not who we are; we are the space of awareness within which it is known and received. The afternoon retreat will include meditation instruction, sitting and walking meditation, guided practices of loving-kindness and compassion, discussion and opportunity for questions in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome: beginners and more experienced practitioners. Space is limited! This event will be limited to 22 participants. Registration Information Cost: Sliding scale: $45 (students, unemployed, retired) - $60 (regular fee) - $75 (supporter fee). TNI is dedicated to offering affordable rates to all. Meditation for Calmness, Clarity and Compassion

Concordia University, Loyola Chapel 7141 Sherbrooke St. West, Montreal, QC

Having a restless, unsettled mind is pretty common, perhaps especially these days when there is so much distraction from social media. Insight (vipassana) meditation can give us skills to collect and calm the mind, which helps us feel greater stability and well-being. Clarity comes when we don't get so pulled into habits of thinking, moods and emotions that come up, because our minds are more calm. And we connect with a natural sense of compassion for ourselves and the world around us as we come to know our own minds with kindness and honesty. These qualities of calmness, clarity and compassion are key developments in insight meditation practice, and we will explore them with teachings and experiential practices during the daylong retreat. The day will include meditation instruction, sitting and walking meditation, guided practices and a talk and discussion, with opportunities for questions in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome: beginners and more experienced practitioners. Space is limited! This event will be limited to 35 participants. Mindfulness and Social Engagement: An Afternoon Retreat

Yoga on the Park Studio 5582 Sherbrooke St. West (metro Vendome, aut #105), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Mindfulness practice wakes us up to recognize the ways that we create suffering for ourselves and others. We come to see the pain and oppression in the world around us with more clarity and compassion as well. How can we respond to social concerns in ways that don't pour more fuel on the flames? Do simple acts of kindness really makes a difference? Are there ways that we can engage with the issues of society that affirm the wisdom of inderdependence - that we're all in this together - rather than perpetuating relationships of power and privilege? We will reflect on Buddhist teachings on social ethics and see what responses to these and other questions ring true for us. The day will include meditation instruction, sitting and walking meditation, guided practices and a talk and discussion, with opportunities for questions in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome: beginners and more experienced practitioners. The teachings will be given in English; questions and comments in French as well as English are welcome. Space is limited!
